ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day at OLSH

Thank you to all who organised our students to be there. With over 100 students from each campus, OLSH’s banner and uniforms were a distinctive sight in the march. In a respectful service, the brave soldiers of significant wars were remembered. With COVID restrictions still in place, the service took place at Anzac Oval, as we were restricted this year from going up Anzac Hill. Great to see so many people in Alice Springs honouring the march with their presence and for OLSH playing a leading part of their community.

- Paul Melloy, Principal

Bath Street Campus

We would like to thank all families who supported the Anzac Day March and Service on Sunday. Approximately seventy students from Bath St marched and over a hundred across the college. One student who marched with pride was young Tyler Berry, wearing his great, great grandfather’s bullet belt that he wore as a Mounted Soldier in WW1. Many students wore various medals received by a relative who had served in the armed services – what a great honour to bestow upon such brave soldiers! Also honoured at the Anzac Day service were all our front line workers in the current pandemic.

Lest we forget.

- Linda Warner, Head of Campus Bath Street

Traeger Campus

We commemorated ANZAC day on Tuesday. The liturgy was moving; I hope these events help our young people to understand the great sacrifice these people made for our great country. Thank you to the students who took on various roles, to Mrs Marshall who organised the liturgy and to the many teachers who also made displays, poppies, etc.

- Wayne Eglinton, Head of Campus Traeger

Sadadeen Campus

Tuesday 27th April 2021, after recess the staff and students of the campus gathered in the amphitheatre to commemorate ANZAC Day. Led by our student leaders, Amy, Savannah and Shashwat, we remembered the sacrifices made by those who have served in both the Australian and New Zealand defence forces. The ode was read, and the last post and roust was played stirringly by Dr Andrew Mirtschin. One minute’s silence was observed. Not a sound, except the wind could be heard. The students participated reverently, as they always do. Thanks to Dr. Mirtschin for playing his trumpet.

- Jasmeet Dhingra, Head of Campus Sadadeen
