Swimming Carnival

Edit Page

The swimming carnival went ‘swimmingly’ last week with many opportunities for our students to participate and excel in the pool. Thank you to coordinators and all the staff who organised the day, ran events and supervised the students. House Captains also excelled with their leadership; organising the students to enter various events on the day. Student behaviour was ‘top notch’.
Well done Gillen for taking out the house spirit award and a HUGE congratulations to Achoa for taking out the House Championship for 2021.

- Wayne Eglinton, Head of Campus Traeger

On Friday the 26th of February, our newly elected House Captains faced their first hurdle of the year: the Swimming Carnival. Each Carnival poses new and exciting challenges, for the first time in five years we hosted a Combined Swimming Carnival – consisting of students from years 5 – 12. Our athletes were energised and rearing to go by the first round of individual races.

This year students had the option to choose between 50m or 25m depending on their swimming capabilities, leading to a fierce competition across all age groups. The deafening cheers could be heard from under the depths of the water as each house called out their chants in a thunderous roar. Captains from both Traeger and Sadadeen lead their Houses with pride and gusto; not a student was left un-motivated on this day of competition. Across the pool colours, posters and themes were worn with pride. The unrelenting heat was held at bay by Standley Summer and Bennett Bondi, whilst the cool tunes of the day were led by Achoella, and the Gillen GOATS motivated their competitors through demonstration of their greatness. Laps of the pool earned the competitors a mighty appetite which was satiated thanks to the hard work by both staff and students at the BBQ – its sheer aroma inciting motivation. The carnival came to a conclusive end with Gillen receiving the House Spirit Award and Achoa emerging victorious as the winners of the 2021 Combined Swimming Carnival. Well done to all who
participated on the day, both as competitors as well as volunteers – a carnival can never truly be a success without your committed efforts.
