Interschool Orienteering

1st September 2021

Interschool Orienteering

This term some of our year 9 students went outside of their comfort zones and undertook the Interschool Orienteering Challenge. Our students were lucky enough to have an induction course run by Lachlan Hallett from Top End Orienteering on the Wednesday prior to the event. Whilst for many this was their first time navigating between locations with only a map and a compass to guide them, through their collaborative efforts they quickly adapted to this new mode of navigation. With a compass in hand and a snack in their pocket, our students took off on the day with great enthusiasm. Shouts of laughter and exclamations of discovery could be heard throughout the Telegraph Station as students from various schools and age brackets located each marker on their map.

It was a beautiful day in the cool sun to see the junior students of Sadadeen Campus demonstrating open collaboration both with their peers & their competitors as they assisted each other with locating “hidden” markers. At the end of the competition our OLSH crew emerged victorious with Grace Muir, Angelique Almanza and Caitlin Marsh winning by a narrow 2 minutes. Congratulations to all of our OLSH orienteers!
