Year 12 Retreat, 2021

Like previous years, our Year 12 cohort headed off to their retreat at Ross River Resort on Wednesday morning 21st April for three days of reflection, relaxation and fun. Retreats by their very definition are to be a time of ‘retreat’ from the pressures of everyday life.

For our students this is a retreat from the pressures of completing their final year of school. This year Br James Hodge facilitated the retreat by leading the students through the program. With his unique style and enthusiasm our students had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Mr Madamombe kept everything running smoothly making sure all our needs were met. At the end of every session, staff consisting of Miss Mary McPhee, Mrs Evelyn Gaces, Miss Sarah Bonney, Mr Innocent Madamombe, Mr Kieran Curnow and Mrs Brodie Edwards led the small groups which met to discuss the session’s content. Mrs Sue Ellem and Miss Carly Wilson prepared our meals, which were delicious and plentiful. Br Tony Caddy was present throughout the retreat in his capacity as College Chaplin. Mr Paul Melloy visited us on the Thursday and joined a small group. A big thanks to all the staff for giving up their time in order to help create a wonderful retreat.

Thursday evening we gathered with several staff from school and our parish priest, Fr. Prakash to have a lovely meal together and celebrate the Eucharist together. We concluded the program on Friday and returned home to Alice Springs later that afternoon.

The program of the retreat emphasises students reflecting to develop self-awareness in themselves and others and culminates in an affirmation activity where they identify the positive qualities in each other. It is quite a moving experience.

Thank you to all the named staff for attending, contributing and being present for our year 12’s. Their presence made the retreat a memorable experience. The weather was kind to us, warm days and cool nights. The location was awe inspiring. The food was delicious and plentiful and finally the year 12’s were excellent, entering fully into the retreat experience. For all of these came together to make a wonderful retreat for our students.
