Science Week

7th September 2021

Science Week

Traeger

During Science Week at Traeger, the Year 5 and 6 students were learning about Earth Science. As part of these studies, we had a visit from Australian Earth Science Education (AusEarthEd) on Tuesday 17th August. The students took part in some hands-on activities and learned about volcanoes and fossils. Thanks to AusEarthEd for an exciting incursion!

Sadadeen

On Monday 16th August was the start of Science Week at Sadadeen. The theme for this year was Food: Different by Design and this was what a few of the activities for the week were based around.

Monday began with a homeroom science quiz with 10.3 and 12.1 being our winners with 20/20. Tuesday saw Rm 604 come alive with chemistry experiments and physics demonstrations at recess with a variety of students coming in and participating. Thank you to the senior science students who came by to help with these activities.
Wednesday saw a taste testing opportunity for the students to taste a variety of alternative meat options that could be a way of providing food security and a cleaner food option for food consumption in the future. Thursday saw the return of the paper plane challenge, with many challengers flying planes but our winner again being our last year champ Shashwat A, with a throw of 13.2m. Friday saw the year 11 Biology class giving a presentation on the vegetable/herb garden tat the students had been creating and maintaining since Week 9 of Term 2. We are hoping this can be a food source for the Food Tech Department in the future and a great project for future 11 Biology students to understand where our food comes from.

Overall, we had a great input and participation from the students during Science Week.
